It’s official, half of New Zealand is now shopping online.
A recent survey has been conducted by Statistics NZ on the online habits of New Zealanders and the overwhelming trend is more online use and more online spending.
It’s not a surprising statistic, but one that bears noting if you are a small business looking to increase your business. The bottom line is that you need a website with excellent web design. Web design that will work best for your business.
But firstly, what exactly did the survey tell us?
Since 2009, the number of people using e-commerce features to make online purchases has increased by 11 percent.
Over 1.8 million people used e-commerce features to make online purchases in 2012, an increase of 400,000 people from three years ago.
45 percent of online shoppers used e-commerce features to spend up to $100 online, while 45 percent spent up to $500.
What is also interesting is the types of purchases people are making. In the past people were mainly using e-commerce features to invest in tangible items, but now over half of those who made an online purchase bought something that could be delivered to them digitally like e-books, e-tickets and music.
The most popular combination of devices to connect to the internet in 2009 was a desktop computer and a laptop, but in 2012 that had changed to a laptop and a mobile phone.
