The Internet Agency uses the latest website technology to design and develop their websites. But where is this website technology headed?
Computer company IBM has looked into the future and identified five changes in internet technology that could occur in the next five years:
Personal energy
The charging of mobile devices by human motion is already happening in the US military with special devices in the boots of soldiers. What IBM is predicting is that this kind of technology will extend to the general public with our own motion and motion around us being used to harness energy.
No more passwords
You won’t have to continually remember different passwords for different websites. The prediction is that we’ll use physical characteristics in place of passwords, such as the voice and the retina, for identification on websites.
No more junk mail
With personal data being the ‘new oil’ that fuels businesses in the future, knowing more about individual consumer interests could mean the end of those e-mails you really don’t want.
The end of the digital divide
There is a case of the haves and have nots when it comes to digital technology. Mobile devices are seen as a way to minimise this divide with positive spin-offs concerning healthcare and the spread of economic opportunities.
Mind reading
As improbable as it may sound, there is research currently underway on how to connect the brain to electronic devices like computers and smart-phones. Uses of this technology include calling someone on your phone just by thinking about it and controlling a computer cursor with your mind.
This technology is still being developed, but there are some technological advances available today that are catching our eye. One of them is a heart-rate app for your phone. You simply hold your finger over the phone’s camera for 10 seconds and your heart-rate will appear on the screen. The app works by tracking the colour of your skin – this colour will differ when your blood is oxygenated and when it isn’t – and workout your heart-rate from this.
